Ex-Ghana player Samuel Inkoom granted bail in alleged visa fraud case

Former Ghanaian footballer Samuel Inkoom has been granted bail after facing charges of defrauding a woman of $4,000 under the promise of securing a US visa.

Former Ghanaian international footballer Samuel Inkoom has been granted bail of GH₵100,000 with two sureties by an Accra court.

Inkoom is facing charges of defrauding a woman, Elizabeth Atarime Mboh Awuni, of $4,000 under the pretense of securing a US visa for her client.

According to a report by the Ghana News Agency (GNA), in December 2023, Madam Awuni reportedly met Inkoom while searching for young footballers. Inkoom allegedly presented himself as involved in travel and tours, claiming he could secure US visas for a fee. Madam Awuni, convinced by his offer, paid $4,000 for her client’s visa application.

The prosecution further alleges that Inkoom made similar claims to another woman, Madam Abigail Owusu, who also paid $2,000 for a US visa. However, after exceeding the promised timeframe for delivering the visas, Inkoom allegedly went into hiding.

Investigation and Charges

Suspecting fraud, the complainants reported Inkoom to the police, leading to his arrest. During investigations, Inkoom reportedly admitted to taking the money but claimed to have sent it to a US partner for visa processing. The police, however, found no evidence of this partner and believe the story to be fabricated.

Inkoom was subsequently charged and brought before the court. He has denied the allegations.

The court, presided over by Mrs. Susana Eduful, granted Inkoom bail with the following conditions. She granted the retired footballer a GH₵100,000.00 bail with two sureties of which each should earn not less than GH₵5000.00

He is also required to surrender his passport and appear for his next hearing on January 22, 2025.
