Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jr., has raised concerns over what he describes as a pattern of controversy surrounding former Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Mavis Hawa Koomson.
Speaking on Peace FM’s morning show Kokrokoo, Pratt reacted to recent reports that Hawa Koomson was physically assaulted during the Ablekuma North election by individuals allegedly linked to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC). The former minister was also accused of using pepper spray during the incident.
Pratt questioned why such incidents seem to follow the former MP for Awutu Senya East, recalling her alleged past involvement in a controversial shooting incident in Kasoa.
"Why is it that everywhere Hawa Koomson goes, there’s chaos? Other people from the NPP were present, yet nothing happened. Why is it always her?" he asked. However, he clarified that no matter the circumstances, "assaulting someone is unacceptable."
His comments drew a sharp response from fellow panelist Nana Akomea, who accused Pratt of unfairly targeting and stigmatising the former minister.
"You must be fair... you’ve zeroed in on her, stigmatising her," Akomea countered, defending Hawa Koomson’s right to operate without being singled out based on past incidents.
